concerning insurance coverage.
Preparing for a Prostheses
There are several things to keep in mind before a fitting:
• Go to a support group and talk to others with breast cancer.
Talking to someone who has been through it will help alleviate
anxiety.
• Get recommendations of fitters from the breast surgeon or the
hospital.
• Make sure there is a private, comfortable fitting room and ask
the fitter if she has special training in dealing with mastectomies.
• It is best to wait until six to eight weeks after surgery before
having a fitting. The surgical site should be completely healed.
• Bring along a tight-fitting piece of clothing that you want to
look good in. It provides a good way of judging the fit of the
prosthesis.
• Have your partner or a good friend go shopping with you. You
will probably want a second opinion about the fit when fully
clothed.
"She Who Wears a Pink Ribbon"
Some women face the impossible . . . an internal battle for life
that connects them with strength they never knew they had . . .
an opportunity to reach further than they every dreamed possible.
With the heart of a true survivor, she sets the course of her
journey. Expanding her quest with those around her. . . helping
them on their journey, teaching early detection through
self-awareness, and fostering prevention through education. But
most of all, she serves as a shining example of how to survive.
Her constant prayer . . . a cure in her lifetime. For herself, her
daughters and her friends she wears a pink ribbon.
